Honkai: Star Rail’s Aventurine is proving that a solid backstory and good writing make a character a “must-pull” for players.

Honkai: Star Rail is a strategic turn-based role-playing game (RPG) developed by miHoYo and published globally by HoYoverse. The game will have its first anniversary on April 26, with events and rewards for players!

In the expanding world of Honkai: Star Rail, Trailblazers meet new faces and get to know them through the story quests available. Some characters have yet to be introduced in the storyline and get featured in a banner, but there are those like Aventurine.

Trailblazers first encountered Aventurine in the version 2.0 Penacony story quest. Many players, such as myself, may have initially been suspicious of his intentions. The 2.1 story continuation allowed players to know Aventurine before his banner, which will be available today. This led to the realization of a Honkai: Star Rail player that Aventurine was the only character they understood before his banner came out.

They shared that they already knew Aventurine as they played him, saw him handling his inner feelings, and saw him meet his supposed end. All these factors made them want to pull for Aventurine despite having many sustain characters, such as Gepard and Fu Xuan.

The Reddit user further explained that they didn’t like Aventurine in version 2.0 as they thought he was cocky, sketchy, and would take advantage of the player. When they played the character, especially with his struggle with the past and future toward his goal, it changed their perspective of him.

Another Honkai: Star Rail player responded, “Yeah, that’s what happens if you give a character a good writing and a whole main story dedicated to him.” This is the reason why Aventurine had been hailed as the “best-written” character in the game, which could potentially boost sales.

One Honkai fan expressed how they missed when this was the norm in Honkai Impact 3rd, one of miHoYo’s games. Character reveals and banner releases appear at the same time which makes it easier for players to skip, but they missed when they got to know the characters first.

It’s always good to have information and a story regarding a character prior to their release, but there are still others who love and pull for characters whether or not they’ve been introduced. I believe that Honkai: Star Rail’s story writing has been improving since the start of Penacony, and hope to see more of it!
