The Persona 5X team issued an apology after fans call out their “misleading” advertisement.

Persona 5: The Phantom X, also known as Persona 5X or P5X, is a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) developed by Black Wings Game Studio and published by Perfect World Games. The game is currently in open beta in China, and Korea and Taiwan will have their open beta on April 18, 2024.

The game is a spin-off of Persona 5, taking place in a parallel universe. This was officially authorized by SEGA with deep involvement by Atlus. The game takes direct references from Persona 5 such as having a dual life, doing activities in the real world while fighting in the Metaverse. The combat system also includes features from the predecessor such as Baton Passes and All-Out Attacks.

While Persona 5X seems like it has potential, the team made a huge error in their advertisement, misleading players. The application description stated, “Download to get 60 draws.”

The Reddit user shared that players required hours of grinding in the game to gain these draws and that most of the free pulls were only for the permanent banner. They also shared that Joker, the main protagonist for Persona 5, was featured on the limited banner that required a different pull currency.

The poster also included a screenshot taken from the livestream, which states that players could “easily” get 60 draws on their first day. A player stated their opinion on the matter, “Wow, that’s definitely false advertising.”

In response to the Persona 5X fans calling out the dev team, they issued an apology for the promotional 60 draws on the first day. They shared, “We were not careful enough in our announcements on some platforms, the team leader (players) misunderstood us. For this, the project team expresses its deep apologies.”

To compensate for the misleading advertisements, they gave out 1,500 in-game currency which is equivalent to 10 pulls. Many Reddit users questioned the team, “So instead of easy 60 pulls, they give 10 pulls as apology?” Another pointed out that the apology was just “sorry the ads were wrong, we will fix our ads.”
