How to breed horses in Minecraft

Find two horses

The first step in breeding horses is to find two of them. Horses are abundant in the overworld and it is fairly easy to find them, you can usually find them in the Plains biome. You can either use a lead to bring them back or tame and ride them using a saddle.

Feed them with golden apples or carrots

Once you have found two horses, you can breed them by feeding them Golden Apples or Golden Carrots. Right-click on each horse while holding the Golden Apple or Golden Carrot to feed them. After feeding the horses, hearts will appear above their heads, and then the two horses will commence breeding.

How to get a faster horse

If speed is what you’re after in a horse, pay attention to the speed of the parents. Breeding two fast horses increases the chance of producing a foal with superior speed.

You would want to repeat this process with the faster offspring with another fast horse so that their offspring would breed another faster horse because they inherit their parents’ speed. The maximum speed you can get for a horse is up to 14.23 meters a second, which is around three times faster than your character’s running speed.

Horses are great to have in your Minecraft worlds both aesthetically and practically, having them for traveling around or companionship is a small aspect of the overall fun in Minecraft, but it plays a huge role to many players of the game.
