Tennis World Tour hosts Mutua Madrid Open as esports tournament

The Mutua Madrid Open will take place in Tennis World Tour as an esports tournament April 27, 2020, through April 30, 2020. Nacon today announced 32 tennis stars, including Angélique Kerber, Andy Murray, Lucas Pouille, and Rafael Nadal, would be among those participating.

The tournament organizers selected Tennis World Tour as the vehicle for the event because of its virtual reproduction of the actual Mutua Madrid Open, thus allowing the participating tennis stars to play each other from the safety of their homes. There is an exact recreation of the Manolo Santana stadium in the game, and the online mode will allow the stars of ATP and WTA to play competitively.

The event consists of two tournaments, the first featuring 32 tennis stars. The second will comprise of matches between influencers and professional tennis players. The tournaments have a total prize pool of approximately $378,000, which will be donated to charity. The ATP and WTA will each have a prize of around $162,000, which the winners will donate to tennis players that are suffering due to the current economic climate. An additional prize of approximately $54,000 will be provided to hospitals to help with the fight against COVID-19.

This confirms we are on the right track with our publishing decisions and the importance we place on the simulation dimension that we continue to develop in our games.”

In celebration of the event, Tennis World Tour has added renowned players, Denis Shapovalov, Alex De Minaur, and Caroline Garcia. Tennis World Tour shall serve as the virtual esports host for the Mutua Madrid Open and will take place from April 27, 2020, through April 30, 2020. The game is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Nacon has plans to release it to the Nintendo Switch.
