- Little Nightmares 3 is announced at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, developed by Supermassive Games.
- For the first time in the series, players can play through the campaign with a friend, introducing co-op puzzles.
- The game follows the journey of two new characters, Low and Alone, each with unique items to solve puzzles and escape the Nowhere.
Fans of the Little Nightmares series have a reason to rejoice as Little Nightmares 3 has been officially announced. The first two games, developed by Tarsier Studios, left a legacy of haunting creatures and nightmarish worlds. Now, Little Nightmares III is in the capable hands of Supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology.
The announcement trailer dropped at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and fans were immediately drawn to the familiar sounds of the eerie soundtrack and nightmarish world. However, Little Nightmares III will have something different from the previous two games: campaign co-op (source).
For the first time in the series, players can play through the campaign with a buddy. While having a companion might reduce the fear factor, it will be interesting to see how the co-op puzzles will work. The two new characters in Little Nightmares III are called Low and Alone, and each carries an iconic item – a bow and arrow for Low, a wrench for Alone – that they will use to solve puzzles and help them escape the Nowhere.
“In Little Nightmares III, players will follow the journey of Low and Alone, two friends looking for a way to get out of the Nowhere,” reads the press release. “They will travel through the Spiral, a world filled with dangerous threats such as Monster Baby in the Necropolis.”
The introduction of co-op is seen as a natural evolution for the series, as large chunks of the previous games featured an AI companion. However, if co-op isn’t for you, then you can play the whole campaign solo.
Little Nightmares III promises to be another compelling package for horror lovers, continuing the series’ tradition of claustrophobic atmosphere and intriguing story. The game will be released sometime in 2024 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.
