Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Revived on Nintendo Switch

Marcus Thorne ·June 22, 2023

Chin up, Luigi fans and ghost-busting aficionados – Nintendo Direct has dropped a spooktacular surprise right in the laps. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, a beloved classic that launched on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2013, is set for a visually-enhanced comeback on the Nintendo Switch. Get ready to step into Luigi’s trembling shoes for another eerie escapade through the haunted hallways of Evershade Valley.

Launched as the sequel to the 2001 GameCube hit Luigi’s Mansion, Dark Moon built on its predecessor’s ghoulish charm, offering more secrets, more specters, and even more frantic hoover-based action. The thrill of stumbling upon hidden areas and sucking up stacks of coinage, combined with the challenge of outsmarting each unique ghostly inhabitant, kept them on the toes throughout Luigi’s solo adventure.

But let’s face it: since the massive success of Luigi’s Mansion 3, with its innovative co-op campaign and competitive multiplayer mini-games, the original titles have been lingering in the shadows. Many of them feared they might fade into obscurity, particularly given the permanent shuttering of the Nintendo eShop for 3DS and Wii U consoles. The announcement of a remastered Dark Moon, then, feels like a seance summoning back a cherished spirit from gaming past.

Nintendo’s reticence to divulge further details about the project, including an exact release date, merely stokes the excitement. It’s like a good ghost story – the less the team know, the more the suspense builds. All the team do know is that the title is slated for release sometime in the coming year. Enough to whet the appetites and leave them eagerly anticipating the moment the team can once again take up the Poltergust and explore the eerie mansions of Dark Moon on the shiny Switch consoles.

The Nintendo Direct event wasn’t just a ghost party, though. Nintendo made sure to cater to every variety of Mario fans, revealing a trove of treasures, including the announcement of a Super Mario RPG remake. Plus, they also teased new tracks and returning characters for the next wave of Mario Kart 8 DLC, and dropped hints about the upcoming side-scrolling platformer, Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Oh, and did the team mention the brand-new game starring Princess Peach launching in 2024? There’s plenty to look forward to in the expansive universe of Mario.
