Caps and Perkz tease lane swap heading into LEC 2020 Spring Season

G2 Esports finished as runners-up at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship after an incredible LEC campaign that saw them dominate the scene with bold flex-picking strategies and excellent team play. Now just one month out from the start of the LEC 2020 Spring Season, the team has teased more unpredictability by revealing that mid-laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther and bot-laner Luka “Perkz” Perković may swap roles again this season.

Caps, formerly Fnatic’s mid-laner, joined G2 Esports in November 2018 in a move that led to Perkz being moved from mid to bot-lane in the 2019 season.

Before the move, Caps and Perkz were regarded as two of the best mid-lane players in Europe. Because the two highly-skilled players had previously led their teams to regional success but never on the world stage, it was thought that the new-look G2 team could finally be a competitor on an international level.

Although the year’s efforts did not end with their hands on the Summoner’s Cup, Perkz’s selflessness and acceptance of giving up his primary position proved to be a primary reason for the team’s remarkable success throughout the year.

G2 Esports finished as runners-up at Worlds 2019 after being defeated by FunPlus Phoenix 3-0 in the final series. Somewhat surprisingly, Caps and Perkz weren’t able to find form during the series and were mostly beaten in lane by opposing mid-laner Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang and ADC Lin “Lwx” Wei-Xiang. Those individual performances combined with the exceptional jungling from MVP-winner Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang ended up being an insurmountable task for the G2 team.

With the opportunity to take it one step further this year, the team has teased a potentially significant change.

Wait, are @G2Caps and @G2Perkz really doing this? 🤯

Sorry @CarlosR, looks like you’ll have to play mid another year pic.twitter.com/IMvL3p6vXR
