Genshin Impact fan theory suggests Paimon might be the Third Descender
Genshin Impact fan theories are implying that Paimon could be the mysterious Third Descender.
Genshin Impact is an action role-playing game developed by HoYoverse and released in September 2020. While many enjoy the exploration in the vast open world of Teyvat or the challenges they face while doing the Spiral Abyss, there are certainly those who enjoy its lore and storyline.
In the beginning, the story of the game may seem simple: siblings become separated by an unknown god when they attempt to leave Teyvat. They wake up and end up finding Paimon, a floating companion, and go on to travel the world, seeking answers about their lost sibling.
One of the many mysteries of Genshin Impact is Paimon’s identity. Players were able to fish Paimon from the ocean, saving her from drowning. While she’s officially known as the players’ companion, there are a lot of theories regarding her true identity, such as one from a Reddit user.
In the Reddit post, many players theorized that Paimon may be from Celestia but found things that say otherwise. During Xingqui’s story quest, they encountered a book titled “The Legend of the Shattered Halberd,” which they believe explained who Paimon was.
The story was about a hero who went on a journey to reunite the seven “swords” to reform the Halberd, accompanied by a traveling companion. After gathering all of the swords, they found out that they needed the spirit of their traveling companion in order to rebuild the Shattered Halberd.
They believed that Paimon wasn’t of celestial origin but rather the Third Descender, whose identity is still unknown. They think that the character is what’s left after the gnosis was removed and that players would have to “remake” the Third Descender similar to what happened in the book.
Others wondered why nobody questioned who or what the character was. The players never encountered another being like Paimon in Genshin Impact. Another player explained that there are a lot of strange creatures in the different nations of Teyvat, such as a fairy in Mondstadt or a meka in Fontaine. This could be why a traveler with a weird creature doesn’t raise too many eyebrows, as they could be normal in another nation.
