Aghanim’s Labyrinth Dota 2 Summer Event is out now, and it’s free
The Dota 2 Summer Event is no longer a mystery. Aghanim’s Labyrinth, a cooperative rogue-like mode, is playable now, and it’s free for everyone.
Aghanim’s Labyrinth Backstory
Aghanim is a name that every Dota 2 player is familiar with. Most associate with Aghanim’s Scepter, a powerful and versatile item seen in just about every game. But in Dota 2 lore, it once belonged to Aghanim, a powerful wizard, hence the name.
This event revolves around him. Players can team up with three friends or queue to join others and enter Aghanim’s Labyrinth. Once inside, they’ll need to navigate through a series of rooms, and each one is filled with different enemies and surprises.
Here’s the catch though. There is no set route. Each team has to choose a path, and that means calculated decisions are essential. Depending on your situation, it might be better to face one set of monsters over another, or maybe you’d prefer a path that leads to a particular reward.
Aghanim’s Labyrinth Shards
Players can also collect Aghanim’s Sceptre Shards and use them to make abilities stronger. But they’ll need to be used wisely since some are more effective than others in specific scenarios. It’s another factor for teams to consider in their decision-making process.
If your team makes it far enough, you’ll have a chance to duke it out against Aghanim himself. But be warned, he’s supposed to be pretty tough. I’d expect nothing less from a wizard whose power is supposed to rival that of a god.
Defeating Aghanim will end the run, and you’ll enjoy the spoils of war. But it’s only the beginning. Like the progression systems used in rogue-like games, you can run Aghanim’s Labyrinth time and time again. It’ll get harder with each run, and the rewards will be better, but it will cap out after four.
That doesn’t mean you need to stop, though. Each additional run allows you to collect Arcane Fragments, which can be used to unlock Blessings, a kind of talent tree that carries over between runs.
